SCHOLARSHIPS -You must bring a copy of all scholarship awards that you receive to your counselor in order to be included in the graduation program. You do not have to use the scholarship award

 

UNC-Chapel Hill Thomas Wolfe Scholarship – Full scholarship for student writers will begin accepting applications on September 1, 2007, with the deadline for submissions being November 2, 2007. Complete information including the application form is available at http://english.unc.edu/creative/tws.

 

St. Lawrence University Presidential Diversity Scholarship - $20,000 per year scholarship awarded to selected students of African American, Asian, Hispanic or native American heritage. For details go to www.stlawu.edu.

Wake Forest Presidential Scholarships for Distinguished Achievement- Twenty  Wake Forest who possess exceptional talents in art, community service, dance, debate, entrepreneurship, leadership, music, theater, and writing. Though Presidential Scholars need not plan to pursue a major in the area of their talent, they are expected to participate actively in that activity on campus. Separate application is required.

Young Arts a program of National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts has recognized and rewarded high school seniors in the disciplines of cinematic arts, dance, jazz, classical music, photography, theater, visual arts voice and writing. COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM –Applicants are evaluated on demonstrated leadership, commitment to community, academic achievement and employment for this merit award activity should be.  You must apply on-line at www.coca-colascholars.org. You will need CCHS’ CEEB code 340665. Application must be received by October 31

 

DAVIDSON COLLEGE BELK Scholarship - CCHS can nominate ONE student to compete for this scholarship valued at $40,814  per year and includes two summer stipends to pursue further enrichment opportunities (up to $3,000). Belk Scholars represent integrity, intellectual enthusiasm, global awareness and leadership potential.  For detailed information go to www.davidson.edu/admissions.  To be considered provide 1) a high school resume  and  2) List the books you have read in the past year for school or leisure. Place an asterisk by those books required for classes you have taken.  These are due to Mrs. Morgan in guidance by Tuesday, October 30.  Students are strongly advised to complete their application to Davidson by  December 1.

 

GEORGIA TECH President’s Scholarship – Various levels up to full cost of attendance ($30,000). To be considered you must submit the freshmen application by October 31. There is not a separate scholarship application.  Successful applicants typically have earned excellent grades in the most challenging courses and have demonstrated a strong work ethic, outstanding personal achievement and leadership outside the classroom. HORATIO ALGER SCHOLARSHIP – Financial aid based scholarship for students with critical financial need ($50,000 or less adjusted gross). Apply online at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships. Application and supplemental materials due by October 30, 2007

 

North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship- North Carolina Teaching Fellows is a scholarship program for students interested in a teaching career.  The scholarship provides a $6,500 yearly scholarship to 500 seniors.  These seniors are selected through a competitive application and interview process and the recipients agree to teach for four years in the State's public schools after college graduation.  Scholarship information and applications can be obtained on line at www.teachingfellows.org or see Mrs. Grady in Guidance by the end of September. Applications are due to Mrs. Grady by October 19, 2007 at 8:00 A.M. Late applications will not be accepted

 

WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS DANFORTH SCHOLARS PROGRAM – receive four years of full or partial tuition. Looking for students with academic excellence (generally top 1-3%) that has exhibited capacity for service & leadership.  Strong commitment to community is very important.  Let your counselor know by October 1 if interested in this scholarship.
