Subject:    Komen Race for the Cure – Cougars for Komen

CALLING ALL COUGARS! WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Charlotte Catholic High School began participating in the Komen Race for the Cure three years ago when the cross country team wanted to honor one of their coaches, Mrs. Elizabeth Keating, a breast cancer survivor. The Cougars for Komen has now become a school tradition and is being promoted through out the entire school to give the students, faculty, staff and parents an opportunity to participate in this very worthy cause. Here’s how you can help:

¨      Every year the Cross Country Team and now student volunteers have sold Cougars for Komen t shirts. These shirts, designed by student volunteers, are very unique in that on the back of the t shirt you will see listed the names of women who are breast cancer survivors or who have lost their lives to breast cancer.  If you have a name or names you would like to have included on the back of the shirt, please send those names to Margaret Griffith, Parent Volunteer, at mgriffith34@alltel.net .You do not have to buy a t shirt to put a name on the back. Please use this as a way to honor those women in your life that have been affected by breast cancer.

¨      Buy a t shirt. They are only $10.00! We know everyone has too many t shirts but these are special. The shirts will be Cougar Red this year with Cougars for Komen printed on the front in school blue block letters with a white outline. On one sleeve will be our cougar paw and the year 2007. The other sleeve will have the traditional Komen pink ribbon. The back of the shirt will be in the same type of lettering and colors with a bold heading that reads “IN MEMORY AND HONOR OF”. All the names we have received will be listed under this heading. We hope this color and design appeals to our Cougar families, both male and female.

¨      This year’s student volunteers are:

o       Meghan Griffith- Chairperson, Senior Class

o       Mary Brehm – Co-Chairperson, Senior Class and Cross Country Team Representative

o       Madelyn Newman – Co-Chairperson, Junior Class and Student Council Representative.

If you or your student wants to help, just let one of these individuals know and we can put them to work. The student volunteers will be taking pre-orders for the t-shirts beginning the week of September 20, 2007 outside the school cafeteria.

¨      Sign up to walk or run with the CCHS team. The date for this year’s Komen’s Race for the Cure is October 6, 2007. We know this date conflicts with the SAT and the Wendy’s Invitational Race. The Cross Country Team coaches will be running and then dashing off (no pun intended) to the Wendy’s Invitational. To register go to www.komencharlotte.org and select the Charlotte Catholic High School Team. You will see some familiar names already registered including Mrs. Keating.

¨      If you don’t want a t shirt and your schedule does not permit your participation in the Race for the Cure on October 6, 2007, we’ll be happy to take a donation to help with the CCHS goal and this very worthy cause. For those of you who work at a Company with a matching gifts program, this contribution is eligible for a matching gift. Please send your donations and matching gift coupon to the parent volunteer address listed below.

¨      The student volunteers have planned some fun stuff to get the student body involved and to help raise awareness of the need for funding breast cancer research. Mr. Healy will be sharing this information with the faculty and staff. Please feel free to share this with your friends, families and co-workers. The Cougars for Komen are honored to recognize the women’s names you give us on the back of the t shirts.

Please get the names you want on the t shirts to Margaret Griffith no later than Monday, September 24 at 5:00pm. Next week is a short school week so all student activities are planned accordingly.

Thank you in advance for your support! If you have any questions, please feel free to email or call our parent volunteer. Also, your student can ask the student volunteers listed above any questions they may have.
