Cell Phone Usage
We are experiencing a tremendous amount of cell phone usage during school hours. One day alone we have collected 1 dozen phones from students who were using their phones or text messaging during regular school hours. This also occurred during PSAT testing. Our usual procedure is that cell phones are taken away and can be collected at the end of the day from our Dean of Students. Using a cell phone in school is a direct violation of the rules established in the Student Handbook page 11 under “Items Banned” which states that “Cell phones are not to be used during the school day and will be taken from the students if seen be a teacher during the regular school day. Repeated violations may result in after-school detention or suspension.” If this continues to be a problem, we will need to re-evaluate this policy and consider placing a monetary fine in conjunction with the regular punishment described in the student handbook. We would appreciate everyone’s full cooperation in this matter.
