If you are planning to attend Central Piedmont Community College, you are required to take the Acccuplacer/Placement test. You can check out the practice test at www.cpcc.edu/testing_assessment. A special Saturday testing day will be held February 23rd at any of the six campuses. You can also test on February 18 and 19. March 1 is the deadline to take the Accuplacer. You can submit your application to attend CPCC at www.cpcc.edu.

Scholarships

 

Charlotte Quilters’ Guild $1,000 scholarship for students with financial need and who intend to pursue quilting as a vocation or a hobby after graduation.  For information go to http://groups/msn.com/charlotteQuiltersguild/welcome.msnw.

 

 The College of Engineering and the Division of Research and Economic Development at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will be hosting an essay competition.  The topic is “How can engineering colleges partner with high schools to give students a better understanding of engineering and engineering research? Go to www.eng.ncat.edu/event/NSF2008/nsf2008.htm. Submission must be received by February 15.

 

Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship CCHS can nominate students who have contributed to the community in a meaningful way by performing volunteer services that helped non-family members. The volunteer activity must have occurred within the last 12 months. Financial need or academic performance will not be considered in the review and selection of winners.  To be nominated, describe your service and how you demonstrated the following:1. Initiative, 2. Creativity, 3. Leadership, and 4. Generosity. Due to Mrs. Morgan by February 28, 2008.

Stop Hunger Scholarships to Recognize Students for Community Service-Students will be selected who have demonstrated ongoing commitment to their community by performing volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States within the last twelve months. Prospective Teacher Scholarship -A competitive, merit-based scholarship program available to full-time students who have chosen to enter the education profession. Recipients must have maintained a minimum GPA of 2.5, received a score of 900 or better on the SAT or 19 on the ACT, enroll in a teacher preparation program at any of the eligible institutions, and plan to pursue a degree in teacher education to become a certified teacher and demonstrate a commitment to teach in the State’s public schools. Applicants must complete the scholarship application tool (the Scholarship Wizard) at www.cfnc.org. Deadline:  April 6.  

North Carolina A & T State University-Graduating seniors with a combined SAT verbal and math score of 1000 or better and at least a 3.25 GPA, could qualify for a scholarship for 50% of tuition and fees. NCSU Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship is a merit and need-based recognition award which rewards needy students who have demonstrated academic success, leadership and special achievement throughout their high school careers. Recipients will receive a $5,000 per year award, which may be renewable for a total of four years.   Candidates must complete both the scholarship application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for consideration for this award. The preferred method of application is via the web at the following web address: www.ncsu.edu/cls.

 

BigSun Scholarship- All student athletes are eligible for this $500 award. Submit a short (500 words or less) essay describing why you should be the winner of this award. Go to  athleticawards@bigsunathletics.com  by June 20, 2008.

 

Financial Aid

 

FAFSA DAY – Saturday, February 9th

College financial aid professionals will be available at the following locations to help families complete and electronically submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Charlotte Downtown Public Library from 9:30 am – 3 pm and

UNC at Charlotte from 10 am – 2 pm
