Pick Up All Necessary Applications Before Christmas Break - You May Not Have The Time To Meet Deadlines If You Wait Until January.  If you need to pick up a transcript for scholarships, please request using gold form no later than Wednesday, December 5, 2007.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

APA’s High School Essay Contest –$5,000 scholarship for juniors and seniors on the  topic of Creating a Green Neighborhood Plan. Go to www.planning.org/institutions/hsessay.htl. Deadline is January 15, 2008.

 

The Art Institutes offer national and local scholarships ranging in value up to $25,000.  Applicants must be high school seniors with a minimum 2.0 average and must meet graphic design program requirements.  Entries must be received by February 8, 2008. ­­­ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF CHARLOTTE SCHOLARSHIP – looking for a senior who exemplifies community service and has financial need.  Up to $10,000 to be used at any one of the 16 NC public universities. Criteria:  3.2 GPA; SAT 1500+ out of 2400, demonstrate community involvement; disclose all financial sources for your college education. Essay required.  Applications are due to Mrs. Morgan by Monday, February 25, 2008.  Financial information can be returned in sealed envelope. Abbott & Fenner Scholarship -$1,000 renewable scholarship available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution. Deadline is June 1, 2008.  For details go to http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm.  

 

East Carolina Academic Scholarship – All required materials, including counselor evaluations and recommendation forms must be postmarked by December 31.  Scholarship applications can be found at http://www.ecu.edu/cs-acad/admissions/apps.cfm

 

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program: Students who are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American are eligible. Covers all unmet needs to attend your choice of US accredited college for up to five years and leads to fellowships and graduate/masters/doctoral degree studies in selected fields of computer science, engineering, library science, math, public health. Criteria include US citizen/legal permanent resident or national, GPA 3.3, demonstrated leadership, meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility. All materials are at www.gmsp.orgPaper submissions postmarked by December 31. Online deadline January 11, 2008.

 

 

Leon and Lorraine Watson Scholarship Program-Elon University- Awards up to $10,000 in scholarships and grants, including a study-abroad program. Eligibility includes being a NC resident for at least one year, demonstration of high financial need, strong academic record, etc. Applicants who bring cultural and or ethnic diversity to Elon are especially welcomed. Deadline:  February 8.

 

National Co-Op Scholarship is open to any student who applies to on of ten (10) Partner Colleges: Drexel University, Johnson & Wales, Kettering University, C.W. Post of LIU, Northeastern University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo or Wentworth Institute of Technology.  The application deadline is February 15, 2008.   For more information, please go to www.co-op.edu.

 

North Carolina A & T State  University Graduating seniors with a combined SAT verbal and math score of 1000 or better and at least a 3.25 GPA, could qualify for a scholarship for 50% of tuition and fees. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro encourages high school seniors to apply for scholarships offered through its Merit Awards Program. Special awards are also offered in the areas of Business and the Sciences. Scholars are selected primarily on the basis of exceptional academic achievement and potential and must meet UNCG’s minimum freshman admission requirements (SAT 1200 or ACT 27 composite, cum GPA of 3.5 or above, and admission by January 4, 2008). OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY – Apply by December 15 to be considered for Scholarship Weekend.

 

SALLIE SOUTHHALL COTTEN SCHOLARSHIP - $750- $5,500 scholarships for students in Charlotte in the top 25% of their class, to be used at any NC state supported university.  Must complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form, 2 letters of recommendation, photo, personal letter explaining why you desire to continue your education, SAT scores, your goals and aspirations, career objectives & why financial assistance is needed.  All materials are due directly to their scholarship chair no later than January 1, 2008.  You will then be contacted regarding interviews on Sunday, February 2. Applications are in the college center.

 

Sam Walton Community Scholarship-A renewable $1,000 award for the student’s first year of undergraduate study at an accredited college or university.  This scholarship is available on-line through January 14, 2008.  Interested graduating high school seniors need to logon to www.walmartfoundation.org for more information.  These students will apply for the Sam Walton Community Scholarship on-line at www.scholarshipadministrators.net.  Applicants must use the access code (SWCS) to complete the application process.  No paper applications are available.  Deadline: January 14, 2008.

 

Senior Helping Seniors Competition sponsored by PNY Technologies - Challenges high school seniors to develop and carry out a project that will enhance the lives of senior citizens within their community using computer technology. Students can enter individually or in teams of five seniors.  Complete details along with entry materials can be found online at www.pny.com/education. Deadline:  December 31, 2007.
