the recipient of the Bernard C. Harris Memorial Scholarship. She was only one of four people selected nationwide from over 400 applicants. As part of her scholarship, CCHS received $1,000.
Shannon Kelly- selected as Charlotte Catholic’s nominee for the Principal’s Leadership Award.
Freshman Amanda Gaffey- recognized by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards as Charlotte Catholic’s youth volunteer. Amanda will receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award and will compete for statewide recognition.
Brian Wahl- Methodist University Presidential Scholarship valued at $32,000.
Kourtney Woodward- was offered a $95,000 scholarship to Florida A&M University.
John Luttrell- CCHS’ nominee for the John Montgomery Belk Scholarship to Davidson.
Kenneth Bahr- Roanoke College RC Scholarship totaling $40,000.
Aaron Blackshaw- Clemson University Academic Scholarship totaling $2,000 and In-State Tuition Award totaling $47,720. Lenoir-Rhyne College Academic Scholarship totaling $40,000. Named Pioneer Scholar at Marietta College and Dean’s Scholarship totaling $6,000. Tusculum College Scholarship totaling $44,000.
Emily Erickson- Clemson University Academic Scholarship totaling $2,000 and In-State Tuition Award totaling $47,720.
Kathryn Turner- Lenoir- Rhyne College Academic Scholarship totaling $16,000.
Sara Skavroneck has been selected as a Coca-Cola Scholar Semifinalist out of nearly 80,000 applicants.
Madison McGlone-Wingate University Academic Merit Scholarship totaling $22,000
College Admissions and Scholarship Letters- Seniors need to notify their counselor of all admission decisions and scholarship letters that are received. We need to keep our records up to date and would like to give you recognition for the scholarships.
Financial Aid Night for parents of seniors will be held December 4th at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel. Senior parents need to start this process now, so come and learn about the FAFSA, college financial aid and scholarship searches. See you December 4th at 7:00 in the Chapel.

Note: If you have difficult selecting CCHS – stop and see Mrs. Rauch before the registration is complete. There is a $21 fee from College Board to change centers once registered.
SAT Prep Class is being offered in preparation for the March 1st SAT given at CCHS. It will meet on Saturdays in February 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 8:30- 12:40. The cost is $80, which includes the book, and the check is made payable to CCHS, (contact Mrs. Grauman if there is a financial need). Call Celia Smith in Guidance for reservations or questions at 704-543-5503. Deadline is January 17, 2008.
PSAT- Underclassmen took the PSAT on Wednesday, October 17, 2007. The score report will include their answers on the test and the correct answers. We also return the test booklets with the questions. We tell the students to review the score report, looking at the questions they got wrong. This is a great learning opportunity and chance to improve their test taking skills for future college entrance tests. An Interpretation meeting will take place on Wednesday January 24, 2008 in the Chapel. All 9th, 10th and 11th grade students and their parents are encouraged to attend.
High School Placement Test for all 8th grade students interested in attending CCHS will be held Saturday, February 2, 2008@CCHS @ 8:15 - 11:30am. Please pre-register before December 5, 2007. A registration packet is available through Mrs. Angela Montague (704-543-1127
extension 3153). The fee is $25.00 cash or check (payable to CCHS). If you have an 8th grader, or know of someone who is planning to attend CCHS for high school, please advise him/her to take this test on the 2nd of February.
Students will need to be at the high school at 8:00 A.M.
North Carolina State University First Year College (FYC) is designed for students who are “undecided” or “deciding” on an academic major. FYC will have Visitation Days to give an overall picture of their program on the following dates from 2:30-4pm. December 7, January 18, February 8 & 22, March 21 & 28, April 4 & 18, and May 2. National Co-Op Scholarship is open to any senior who applies to one of ten (10) Partner Colleges: Drexel University, Johnson & Wales, Kettering University, C. W. Post of LIU, Northeastern University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo or Wentworth Institute of Technology. The InVest Scholarship is available to any high school senior who has taken the Marketing class at CCHS. The paper application is available in the College Center Scholarship file cabinet. The due date is April 15, 2008.

The Martha Guy Summer Institute is held every summer on the Appalachian State University campus. High school students from across the state spend two weeks on campus learning about business and developing their leadership and professional skills, followed by a trip to New York City. Participants are selected through interviews by alumni and Business Advisory Council members. The 2008 Martha Guy Summer Institute is scheduled for July 6-26.

Admission to the 2008 Martha Guy Summer Institute is limited to current high
school juniors. Applicants should be competitive students among their high
school class, shall provide evidence of high school academic achievement,
demonstrate involvement in school and/or community activities, as well as
leadership potential. Applicants should also have a sincere interest in
business.
Once applications are received, finalists are identified and invited to
interview.
