**Transition to College Workshop for Senior Parents**

Ann Murphy, former Director of College Guidance at Charlotte Country Day School and College Consultant, and Dr. Richard Blackwell, Practicing Psychologist, have developed a two track workshop for parents and students dealing with the issues of transition to college.  Some of the topics covered will include:

*what this is and what this isn’t, basic truths about parenting almost grown children

*where parents and children are developmentally

*what to expect: emotional changes, social changes, moral/spiritual changes

*where this fits in the scheme of life (major life decisions)

*things to do during the senior year to ease the transition

       *D- Day (departure) advise

Dr. Blackwell has his B.S. in Business and PH.D. in Counseling Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill and Masters in Pastoral Counseling from Duke Divinity School.  He has served as Chaplain at Presbyterian Hospital, a visiting professor in Counseling at UNC and a practicing psychologist in Charlotte for over twenty years.  He is a gifted speaker and presents workshops on a number of topics including those related to child development.  He is also the parent of one college student and two college graduates.

This is a great opportunity to begin to confront many of the issues relating to an often neglected part of the process of moving from high school to college!
