MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!

There will be a meeting for all Sophomores and Juniors interested in applying for AP classes on Wednesday, January 10^th at 3:00 in the cafeteria.  Parents are invited, but not required to attend.  Teachers will be present to discuss the course requirements and the process of applying for a course.

Summer Ventures in Science and Math is an opportunity for rising juniors and seniors (current grades 10 and 11) to spend a month in the summer learning and participating in science and math research with other students around North Carolina.  The program is taxpayer funded, so there is no cost to you.  See Mrs. Grauman for an application, or check out the website at

PSAT- Underclassmen took the PSAT on Wednesday, October 18, 2006.  The returned score report will include their answers

on the test and the correct answers.  The score report will be returned to them during homeroom on Jan 8th, please bring them with you to the meeting.  Also, a new credit card size pamphlet called “Road map to College” will be given to each student. This is a great college/career planning tool including upcoming SAT test dates, so take advantage of this. The test booklet will also be returned. We tell the students to review the score report, looking at the questions they got wrong.  This is a great learning opportunity and chance to improve their test taking skills for future college entrance tests. An Interpretation meeting will take place on Wednesday January 24, 2007 in the Chapel at 7:00.  All 9^th, 10^th and 11^th grade students and their parents are encouraged to attend.

High School Placement Test  for all 8^th grade students interested in attending CCHS will be held Saturday, February 3, 2007 at CCHS from 8:15 - 11:00am. Pre-registration was due December 1, 2006. If you have not yet registered, please call Mrs. Angela Montague (704-543-1127 extension 3153) as soon as possible.

The fee is $25.00 cash or check (payable to CCHS).  If you have an 8^th grader, or know of someone who is planning to attend CCHS for high school, please advise him/her to take this test on the 3rd of February.

Students will need to be at the high school at 8:00 A.M.

FAFSA Day- is Saturday February 17 at the Downtown Public Library from 9:30-3:00 and at CPCC-Levine Campus from 9-12. Financial Aid officers will be available to help complete and submit the FAFSA forms. Register at www.CFNC.org/fafsaday or call 866-866-CFNC.

For those who like to plan ahead!

We will be offering an SAT Prep Class in preparation for the March 10^th SAT given at CCHS.  It will meet from 8:30 to 12:30 on February 10, 17, 24 and March 3^rd.  The cost is $80, which includes the book, and the check is made payable to CCHS.

North Carolina House of Representatives- Page Program. An eligible student must be between 15 and 18 years old. The student will serve for one week. See Mr. Needham in Guidance for an application and information about the program.

Notre Dame's Pre-College Leadership Seminars- Global Issues Seminar Jul 22-28, Latino Community Seminar Jul 15-21, African American Seminar Jul 8-14. Please see Mr. Needham in Guidance for nomination guidelines and application deadlines. 

College Admissions and Scholarship Letters- Seniors need to notify their counselor of all admission notifications and scholarship letters that are received. We need to keep our records up to date and would like to give you recognition for the scholarships.
