CSS Profile- Seniors interested in obtaining non-federal student aid may register with the College Scholarship Service (CSS Profile.) Only certain colleges require this. To see if this is required by your schools, and to apply online, go to www.collegeboard.org and click on Profile icon.
Physician Mentoring Program 9th and 10th graders, good in math and science and interested in becoming a doctor are invited to apply to become part of the Physician Mentoring Program at Carolinas Healthcare System. To receive an application packet, call Michelle Kammeyer at 704-512-6574. Applications are due November 30, 2006. the program will begin in January 2007.
College Financial Aid & Affordability Workshop

At CCHS in the Chapel.
All parents are invited to attend this workshop presented by Eileen Dills, Assoc. Vice-President for Student Financial Service at Queens University. Ms. Dills will discuss need-based aid, merit scholarships, consumer tips, scholarship searches and other financial options. This is a must attend!
FAFSA Applications- Free Application for Federal Student Aid will be available online beginning on January 1, 2007 at www.fafsa.ed.gov
MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!
There will be a meeting for all Sophomores and Juniors interested in applying for AP classes on Wednesday, January 10th at 3:00 in the cafeteria. Parents are invited, but not required to attend. Teachers will be present to discuss the course requirements and the process of applying for a course.

The North Carolina School of Science and Math: Register online at www.ncssm.edu/admissions by Jan 15th. Students must take the December SAT to apply. NCSSM is a publicly funded boarding school for juniors and seniors who are exceptionally gifted in science and math.
Summer Ventures in Science and Math is an opportunity for rising juniors and seniors (current grades 10 and 11) to spend a month in the summer learning and participating in science and math research with other students around North Carolina. The program is taxpayer funded, so there is no cost to you. See Mrs. Grauman for an application, or check out the website at http://www.summerventures.orgThe application deadline is January 31st .
PSAT- Underclassmen took the PSAT on Wednesday, October 18, 2006. The score report will include their answers on the test and the correct answers. We also return the test booklets with the questions. We tell the students to review the score report, looking at the questions they got wrong. This is a great learning opportunity and chance to improve their test taking skills for future college entrance tests. An Interpretation meeting will take place on Wednesday January 24, 2007 in the Chapel. All 9th, 10th and 11th grade students and their parents are encouraged to attend.
High School Placement Test for all 8th grade students interested in attending CCHS will be held Saturday, February 3, 2007@CCHS @ 8:15 - 11:00am. Please pre-register before December 1, 2006. A registration packet is available through Mrs. Angela Montague (704-543-1127
extension 3153).
The fee is $25.00 cash or check (payable to CCHS). If you have an 8th grader, or know of someone who is planning to attend CCHS for high school, please advise him/her to take this test on the 3rd of February.
Students will need to be at the high school at 8:00 A.M.
For those who like to plan ahead!
We will be offering an SAT Prep Class in preparation for the March 10th SAT given at CCHS. It will meet from 8:30 to 12:30 on February 10, 17, 24 and March 3rd. The cost is $80, which includes the book, and the check is made payable to CCHS.
