| Danny Vliet | Junior Danny Vliet has been named to the Region 6 team for baseball competition for 2008 State Games of North Carolina. The Region 6 team is comprised of players from Mecklenburg, Gaston, Cleveland, Cabarrus, Union, and Iredell counties. 150 rising senior players tried out and 20 were selected. The State Games competition will be held June 11-15 in Greensboro, NC. Way to go Danny! GO Cougars!! |

was selected to perform at the most recent Tosco Music
Party – Beatle’s Tribute at Spirits Square. Emily not
only performed a solo but was a member of the house band
chorus. She gave a fabulous performance to a sold out

Congratulations to Cory Busker for his selection as a featured author in Elder & Leemaur Publishers' upcoming book entitled "Voice of the Future". His essay written on the topic "The most Politically and Economically Stable Country" was among the top 3% of over 4,100 essays submitted. The book will contain essays from other students across North America. Cory's essay is now being reviewed for the possible award of a scholarship. Awesome Cory!! |

School of North Carolina, the oldest statewide summer
residential program for academically and intellectually
gifted high school students in the nation. Sarah will
participate in a six week program at the Governor's
School East location on the campus of Meredith College
in Raleigh North Carolina. Her areas of academic
concentration will be Social Science and Philosophy.

Presidential Scholars competition. 3,000 students
were identified as candidates in the program, and only
560 semifinalists have been selected from across the
country.

sophomore, Theresa Clementi, winner of the Spring Gown Competition
at the Pure Fashion Show on April 13, 2008 at The Westin
Hotel. Theresa designed an original prom dress, which
was selected, along with her essay, as the winner from
among 69 entries. Her dress was professionally sewn and
Theresa modeled her gown at the Fashion Show hosted by
Barbara McKay, former WBTV television personality.

Junior Michael Ryan and freshman Drew Ryan and the "Shoot-Out for Skin Cancer" Club held the fourth "Shoot-Out" at the Rock Hill Paint Ball fields on March 19, raising over $2400 for for the Melanoma and Immunotherapy Fund at the Carolinas HealthCare Foundation . | Charlie Hetzel | Senior Charlie Hetzel has qualified for the United States Olympic Trials in swimming. Charlie swam a qualifying time in the 100 meter butterfly at the United States Swimming Southern Sectional Championship in Nashville, TN. His time was the 5th fastest high school time in the country this year. The Olympic Trials will be held in Omaha, Nebraska beginning on June 30th. Charlie has committed to the United States Naval Academy. |
| Mary Kate Hetzel | Sophomore Mary Kate Hetzel has qualified for the United States Swimming 18 and Under National Championships in five events: the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly , 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. The National Championships will be held at the University of Minnesota in August. |

Congratulation to Clare Rizer, a junior,
who is one of 11 students chosen through an application and
interview process by the Echo Foundation to be a Footsteps
Ambassador in their ECHO ABROAD: Footsteps in Rwanda program
this summer. The mission of the Echo Foundation is to sponsor
and facilitate those voices that speak of human dignity, justice
and moral courage in a way that leads to positive action for
humankind. Clare and the other Ambassadors will spend two weeks
in July working in western Rwanda with the Sonrise School for
Orphans and in eastern Rwanda with the Boston-based Partners in
Health program which promotes health and long-term positive
changes in the rural community.

who were selected to play on the US Lacrosse Lower Atlantic
Regional National Team. They will play in the showcase US
Lacrosse National Tournament May 24th and 25th in Baltimore,
MD. It is one of the largest women's lacrosse events in the

Daniel Allison! Bubonik Funk took 1st Place in the
CCHS Battle of the Bands which took place February 23, 2008 @
Tremont Music Hall. Donnie Dies took second (band members
Dries Vandenburg, Aaron Utterback, and Matt Zutell). Kids
in a Sandbox took 3rd (band members include Eric Gleeson and
CCHS Alums Davie Heileger and Jeremy Maher). Other Bands
competing include The Fallback, Bravado, State Line, We are
Walrus, and WOW.

Congratulations to CCHS Wrestlers Charlotte Catholic Cougars wrestlers went undefeated in the Queen City 3A/4A conference and then won the conference tournament Saturday at Waddell High School. The cougars medaled in 10 weight classes with three 1st place finishers, Michael Bruno - 119 lb. Zack Priester - 130 lb. and Eric Hogue at 140 lb., four 2nd places going to Andrew Grant - 125 lb., Evan Peleaux - 145 lb., Daniel Perrine - 152 lb., and Adam Sachee - 160 lb. and three 3rd place finishes with Kevin McCaffrey - 112 lb., Brandon Shell - 171 lb. and Jeff Levasseur at 189 lb. |

Congratulations to freshman Jesse Roy for a strong showing at the 2008 Las Vegas Nike National Kicking/Punting Event. Jesse competed with over 450 other participants including the top nationally ranked kickers/punters. Jesse advanced to the showcase event kicking before over 50 coaches from the nations top collegiate football programs. Chris Sailer, the nations most highly regarded evaluator of kickers/punters and Kicking Analyst for both Rivals.Com and Scout.Com is expecting Jesse to challenge for the nations #1 kicker. Jesse has the highest rating amongst freshman, a 4 star rating out of a possible 5 stars. In the class of 2011, Jesse has been ranked the #3 kicker in the nation! Go Catholic!! |
| The following choral students attended the All-Carolina Male Invitational Festival at Chapel Hill University on January 11th-12th, 2008: Clint Dury, Danny Gassaway, Pat Jones, Joe Mankowski, Mike Pearl, Ian Pierson, Nick Sweet, Nico Villacura, and Dustin Vu. The students, ranging from freshmen to seniors, learned 5 songs, and rehearsed with 90 other high school guys from 15 high schools. The guest clinician was Dr. Jefferson Johnson from University of Kentucky. The UNC-CH Men’s ’Glee Club, under the direction of Dan Huff, sang with the guys during the 2 day event. They prepared 5 songs which were presented at a 5:30 PM concert Saturday January 12th. | |
