 CCHS Sports Rules/Traditions

If your son is selected to play on one of the teams, there are certain rules/traditions that are followed.  I thought I would go over these up front so there are no surprises once the season begins.  These rules are MACS/school rules

  1. Practices are held at Davie Park and usually begin at 3pm.  It is your responsibility to find a carpool for your child.  The coach or team manager can get be involved in organizing it.
  2. Away Games/weekend games-every player must ride the bus to every away game.  Even if you live 20 miles from the school and 3 minutes from the away field, it is required for everyone to ride the bus. Permission slips must be signed if a player is not riding the bus back to school and turned in to the team manager before they leave on the bus.
  3. A button down with the CCHS initials and tie are worn to school on home game days for JV and Varsity and the seniors choose what the Varsity players wear on away games.  You get the button downs at Add logos.
  4. On game days, the players do not leave school before the game.  Parents provide snacks, drinks & dinner.
  5. A Drug and Alcohol Policy Form must be filled out by every player who makes the team.

Recap 2006 Season:

Coach Gary Hoilett’s CCHS boys’ soccer 2006 team entered this season as the 2005 Queen City Champions. The 2006 squad quickly defined its own championship caliber by posting a perfect 12-0-0 Queen City Conference record and a #2 seed in the 2006 playoffs! The 2006 season record of 20-2-4 marks the 9th consecutive year a Coach Hoilett led team has won 20 or more games, won the league championship and qualified for the NCHSAA playoffs!

Long standing rivalry games against Country Day, South Meck, and Myers Park went 1-1-1 respectively. New rivalries have emerged with Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons and Gastonia Forestview. The Cougars beat 2/A State Champ Gibbons (1-0) and split the two matches with the Forestview Jaguars (1-0, 0-1). Blake Laurie used high octane all season to fuel the Cougar attack contributing 14 goals and 19 assists. Xander Drummond led all scorers with 16 goals. Forward Chris Needham (13 goals, 8 assists) and Co-Captain/Mid-fielder Sean Luckie were unstoppable all year. Midfielders Corey Baran and Ryan Myrick contributed big plays. Thomas Coughlin, was never out hustled and Donnie Smith’s all out effort in the Gibbons game along with Drummond’s goal, provided the winning margin. Michael Daly and fellow seniors, Jeff Stanek, Kyle Lesniak, and Matt Moorman contributed to Greg Hesler and the GKs posting 16 shut outs over a 26 game season.

Going into the playoffs, the Cougars were ranked # 2 in the State. Reaching the State Championship game this year was not to be as new, 3/A rival Forestview, blanked Hoilett’s Cougars 0-1 in the 2006 playoffs. It was the only game the 2006 squad was held scoreless and ended the season at 20-2-4. In the final North Carolina Soccer Coach’s Association polls, CCHS was ranked # 9. The 2006 Cougars earned several post season recognitions. Selected to the Queen City All Conference team are: Andy Biermann, Michael Daly, Xander Drummond, and Blake Laurie; Second Team All Conference are Sean Luckie and GK, Greg Hesler. Biermann was chosen as the Queen City Player of the Year. Coach Hoilett was selected as the Queen City Coach of the Year. All Region Players are: Andy Biermann, Michael Daly, Blake Laurie, and Xander Drummond. The North Carolina Soccer Coach’s Association selected mid-fielder Andy Biermann to the All State team!
